Valley Forge Academy Qatar - BUGLE #11
Dear VFAQ Community,
As we move further into the next chapter of the school year, we would like to commend our community for all their efforts supporting the Valley Forge process. The third edition of our school newsletter is a wonderful opportunity to recognize our success and opportunities for improvements. Supporting the process We have listened to your concerns in multiple areas we are committed to making changes to improve our school. For one, our traffic plan has been successfully implemented, and we appreciate your cooperation with us by parking in designated areas, being considerate of others and driving safely while inside the compound. Another area of parental support we would like to highlight is the great success of this year’s Parent Teacher Meeting in which the majority of parents attended. Finally, we are aware that students are struggling with some social issues. Valley Forge is committed to a restorative approach in dealing with conflicts among our students. Although unconventional, the process restores the ability for our young men to build relationships rather than break them. This goes a long way to reaffirm our commitment to a holistic approach to growth. Our five cornerstones — leadership, academic excellence, physical development, personal motivation, and character development — drive every decision we make at Valley Forge.
We appreciate parental involvement and encourage participation in the upcoming Rank Assembly that will take place by the month’s end. Taking the time to discuss the use of the Guidon to help your child’s success in achieving rank is imperative for their own benefit. As the school year progressed, we’ve had Old Person’s Day in our Kindergarten, Parent Meeting, HERO awards, a Value’s assembly and multiple other celebrations within the classrooms as well as school wide. Our After-school Activities have been a success, offering various options for students to engage in Physical Development, one of our core values. We feel fortunate to work with students and families who consistently strive to better themselves and the Valley Forge community. We are also proud that students demonstrate what it means to be a faithful Muslim, living with mindfulness in line with Prophet Muhammed PBUH’s teachings.
Together, we are building a community that reflects the very best of what Valley Forge Academy Qatar stands for. As always, be proud, kind, and resilient.

The Value of Respect: Empowering Our Students
At Valley Forge Academy, the value of respect is not just a principle; it is a vital part of our students’ everyday lives and learning experiences. I would like to highlight how our students implement this essential value.
Learning Respect Through Collaboration: In our school, respect is deeply intertwined with collaboration. Students work together on projects, recognizing that each member brings unique insights and talents to the table. This collaborative spirit fosters an environment where students learn to listen actively and appreciate differing viewpoints. By valuing each other’s contributions, they develop essential teamwork skills that will serve them well beyond the classroom.
Respecting Diverse Voices: Our student come from a variety of backgrounds, each with their own stories and perspectives. This diversity enriches their work and broadens their understanding of the world. By respecting these diverse voices, students learn the importance of inclusion and empathy. They become more effective storytellers, as they seek to represent the experiences of others with accuracy and compassion.
Showing Respect to Teachers and Staff: Respect goes beyond peer interaction; it also includes teachers and staff. By actively listening during lessons, engaging in discussions, and valuing their educators’ expertise, students showcase this essential value. Simple gestures like saying “thank you” or seeking guidance when needed create a respectful atmosphere that enhances the learning experience. By showing appreciation for their teachers’ efforts, students cultivate a positive and supportive educational environment.
Constructive Criticism and Growth: Respect in our school also means providing constructive feedback. Students learn to critique each other’s work thoughtfully and respectfully. This practice not only helps them improve their skills but also builds a culture of trust and support. When students feel respected, they are more willing to take risks and express their ideas, leading to personal and collective growth.
Creating a Positive Atmosphere: A respectful environment encourages open dialogue, allowing students to express their thoughts and feelings without fear of judgment. In this safe space, they can explore complex topics, engage in meaningful discussions, and develop critical thinking skills. Respect empowers students to voice their opinions while also considering the perspectives of others, fostering a sense of community.
Preparing for the Future: The lessons learned through respect extend far beyond the classroom. As students implement this value in their interactions, they prepare themselves to be thoughtful, compassionate leaders in the future. The ability to respect others will serve them well in their personal and professional lives, helping them navigate diverse environments with grace and understanding. At Valley Forge Academy, our students are not just learning about respect; they are living it every day. By embracing this value within our school, they cultivate a culture of collaboration, understanding, and growth. Together, let us celebrate and continue to foster respect as a cornerstone of our school community, empowering our students to become respectful and responsible citizens of Qatar.
The Hero Within
He peeped through the blanket hole before letting the light fall onto his face. The familiar flutters of excitement tapped on his heart as a smile began to creep onto his brightening eyes. With jitters of delight, Mohammed shook the blanket off his body and hastily made for his cupboard, thoughts already rushing through the schedule for the day. Having got his uniform on back to front, he sprinted down the front steps, two at a time, barely hiding his pleasure of another day at Valley Forge. This was different. He hadn’t felt such a feeling before. Mohammed understood values and what it meant to have responsibility, he had memorized the cornerstones and even received his HERO rope for the first quarter. This felt different. Mohammed felt like the process of becoming a man was starting to feel real. Watching the cars with an air of absentmindedness, he leant an inch forward as the building came into view. He could see Mr Josh standing outside, fixing Ibrahim’s rank to his shoulder. Mr Alex was welcoming a new student, embracing him with both hands, smiling from ear to ear. Mr Hamza was laughing with some G9 students, showing them his football skills on the five a side pitch. Mr Steven was beaming down from the front steps, Guidon in hand, smiling with joy at a bunch of G3 students who had asked for his autograph. Mohammed whisked his bag onto his shoulder and sprang out the car, taking in the full sunshine as Khalid ran up besides him, talking at a hundred miles per hour, mirroring Mohammed’s excitement. Side by side, they entered the double doors, greeting the smiling faces around them as they welcomed another day at Valley Forge.
